Polydimethylsiloxane

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is a widely used silicone-based polymer known for its flexibility, chemical stability, transparency, and biocompatibility. It belongs to the class of siloxane polymers, where the backbone consists of repeating –Si–O– (siloxane) bonds with methyl groups attached.

Chemical structure

  • Backbone: –[Si(CH₃)₂–O]ₙ–

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid polymer

  • Exists in forms ranging from low-viscosity fluids to rubbery elastomers
